"Alas! Must it ever be so? Do we stand in our own light, wherever we go, and fight our own shadows forever?"
February 2nd...the day Phil the groundhog comes out of his burrow and uses his "very particular set of skills" to predict when winter will finally come to an end. Or so they say...
At our house, we celebrate this fun little holiday with our annual Dinner and a Movie, starring, of course, the Groundhog Day movie.
We have breakfast for dinner in honor of Phil (the character, not the groundhog) chowing down in the diner when he learns that he can't die.
Phil: “This is one time where television really fails to capture the true excitement of a large squirrel predicting the weather." ~Groundhog Day movie
We start the day watching the Groundhog Day festivities from Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania on TV. The Punxsutawney Groundhog Club hosts a 2 day celebration starting on February 1. They have talent shows, lunches, banquets and balls celebrating their magical little weather predicter named Phil.
The activities are pretty close to what they show in the movie. And the town of Punxsutawney looks like a fun place to visit. Checkout groundhog.org for more information on their fun events.
