Wonka's Wonderland - Decor and Ambience

Hold your breath

Make a wish

Count to three

Mr. Willy Wonka, the eccentric owner of the greatest chocolate factory in the world, has decided to open the doors of his factory to five lucky children and their parents.

You can get a stencil on Etsy to make your own Wonka boxes.

In order to choose who will enter the factory, Mr. Wonka devises a plan to hide five golden tickets beneath the wrappers of his famous chocolate bars.

Buy chocolate bars and then wrap them with the golden ticket and the Wonka wrapper. You can find them on Amazon or Etsy.

Charlie Bucket is a poor but virtuous boy. Charlie lives in a tiny house with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bucket, and all four of his grandparents. Once a year, on his birthday, Charlie gets one bar of Wonka chocolate. Charlie hopes to find a golden ticket, but alas, he does not.

Set up a candy shop/table with 'Bill's Candy Shop' sign - the store where Charlie shopped for his candy.

But then, a stroke of luck befalls Charlie when he spots a dollar bill buried in the snow. He decides to use a little of the money to buy himself some chocolate before turning the rest over to his mother. After inhaling the first bar of chocolate, Charlie decides to buy just one more and within the wrapping finds the fifth golden ticket.

Before the visit to the factory, Mr. Wonka's business rival Slugworth attempts to bribe the children to steal an Everlasting Gobstopper. It is later reveled that Slugworth is actually Mr. Wilkinson, one of Mr. Wonka's workers. The proposal is a test Mr. Wonka set up to judge the worthiness of the ticket holders to take over the factory.

Set up the entrance to your venue like the entrance to the Wonka chocolate factory. The 'real' one is pretty plain. You can opt for the simple entrance or dress it up as much as you want!

Just inside the factory, they are greeted with a contract to sign.

Set up a table with the contract and quill pens for your guests to sign before they enter. You can buy the quill pen set or you can make your own using a feather from the craft store, a regular pen and some pretty ribbon. Search online for Willy Wonka contract templates and printables.

After everyone has signed the contract, they are lead to a seemingly shrinking room and get stuck in a hallway that doesn't have any exits. They all start to panic and think Mr. Wonka has gone mad.

But then, Mr. Wonka opens a huge door and they enter the Chocolate Room where everything is edible.

In the factory, Charlie and Grandpa Joe marvel at the unbelievable sights, sounds, and especially smells of the factory.

Download images from the web and print them out to put up on a wall near the entrance. Or you can actually buy or make real lickable wallpaper. Tutorials online.

Or go another route and use candies.

Whereas Charlie and Grandpa Joe are grateful toward and respectful of Mr. Wonka and his factory, the other four children succumb to their own character flaws. Accordingly, they are ejected from the factory in mysterious and painful fashions.

Augustus Gloop falls into the hot chocolate river—while attempting to drink it—and is sucked up by one of the many pipes.

In the book version, Veruca Salt is determined to be a “bad nut” by nut-judging squirrels who throw her out with the trash. The original movie version has the goose and the golden eggs.

Violet Beauregard impetuously grabs an experimental piece of gum and chews herself into a giant blueberry.

With the hope of being on his beloved television, Mike Teavee shrinks himself, and his father has to carry him out in his breast pocket.

Even Charlie and Grandpa Joe get into a pickle when they sneak the Fizzy Lifting Drink.

After each child’s trial (except for Charlie's), the Oompa-Loompas beat drums and sing a moralizing song about the downfalls of greedy, spoiled children.

When only Charlie remains, Mr. Wonka turns to him and congratulates him for winning.

The entire day has been another contest - the prize is the entire chocolate factory.

Charlie, Grandpa Joe, and Mr. Wonka enter the 'Wonkavator', a glass elevator which shoots through the roof of the factory and crashes down through the roof of Charlie’s house, where they collect the rest of the Bucket family.
