Sight

"Of all the senses, sight must be the most delightful."

~Helen Keller

From the look of the cake to the appearance of the lawn and sidewalk when they pull up to your party -

what your guests see, matters.

Declutter and Clean!

One of the best things you can do in preparation for your party is to clean. And it doesn't cost anything. Start with decluttering your event space. No one wants to be tripping over the kids toys or the rake that was left in the back yard.

Focus on the areas that your guests will be in. You can close bedroom doors or other areas that will not be open.

Of special importance are the bathrooms and the kitchen/cooking area. Also, starting out with a clean kitchen will aide in the cleanup afterward.

Lighting

Lighting plays a big part in the tone of the party. Depending on the type of party it an be soft and subtle or energetic and colorful.

Candles

Candles are one of the easiest ways to add soft lighting to your party. Use mason jars, old wine bottles, votives, floating candles in vases or wine glasses with lamp shades.

String Lights

Hang 'em on a line across the patio, light up a walkway, wrap on trees, put 'em in a bottle or make a wall of lights. LED string lights are a great economical way to light up the party.

I have found from experience that battery operated lights don't last very long. Probably OK for a one time use. I prefer the plug in lights so I can keep reusing them. There are even USB plug options available.

Backlighting/Uplighting

Using lights to backlight or uplight creates a dramatic effect.

Chandeliers

There are lots of DIY chandelier ideas on the web. With a hula hoop and some string lights, mason jars, or a repurposed chandelier from a flea market, these will make your event stand out.

Novelty Lighting

Use novelty lighting to enhance your themed event. Website like Amazon, NoveltyLights.com, Walmart, Etsy and eBay sell fun themed lights. If you like DIY projects, just Google search and you'll find plenty of tutorials.

Decor

Whether it is a simple rustic table setting or an all out themed event, the right decor will set your party apart.
